My baby was born 7 weeks premature, He was quite a big weight at 4lbs 03oz, much bigger than others on SCBU.. they were all under 3lbs... So never thought any thing would go wrong!!!
But after a few day's I was told that he had a narrowing of his Aorta... his heart was not strong, He was later sent to Birmingham Childrens hospital,where he had an operation , which went ok.. but his little body could not take much more,he later had renal failure,but he could not go on dialysis because he was too small, so it had to be done manually!!! He then developed a perforated gutt.. my Angel was slowly being taken away from me...
After several more ops,and brain scan was told there was nothing more the doctors could do for him.. I had to make the decision to have him taken off life support and all the drugs that were keeping him alive!!!
A mother should not have to go through this, but I had no choice.
My husband at the time had lost his mother the week before,so he was in no fit state to think straight.. All I could think about was my baby and my other two sons at home..
The doctors said that as soon as he was off all medication and life support he would go within a matter of minutes... But he was a fighter to the end, we held him for several hours,the doctors and nurses could not beleive what they were seeing.. I even managed to put him to my breast he managed a little suckle,which also amazed the staff!!!! I was blessed to have been able to hold him for so long without all the tubes...
My heart was broken and died for the first time on the 18th FEB 1987.. He was taken to play with Angels..

Hidden safely in the grass,
We could search for them and pick them up,
And hold them within our clasp.
